We’re Always Learning: All About Air Quality Bootcamp

Bootcamp attendees at the welcome dinner. Attendees introduce themselves and talk about why they were interested in attending.

The Coalition for Clean Air team and our team at TD Enviro have just completed our sixth All About Air Quality Bootcamp training if you can believe it! We have trained a total of 154 community advocates across California over six training sessions since our first one in June of 2023.

For those who may not know, the All About Air Quality Bootcamp is a two-day intensive training for community advocates who are working on or interested in science or policy-related air quality issues. The training covers introductory air quality science concepts, pollutants and their emission sources, measuring and accessing data, air quality policy and regulation, advocacy, and environmental justice.

The whole group and bubbles!

These bootcamps have shaped the way TD Enviro thinks about and approaches education and outreach. We’ve always strived to truly collaborate with partners, and these bootcamps have given us new ways to create spaces where everyone is recognized as a leader and expert in their area. While our team may bring air quality science and monitoring expertise, our partners know their streets and their neighbors, which is an equally, if not more important part of developing air quality projects that make a difference. People and communities bring science and data to life and make them into effective tools.

The whole training team agrees that All About Air Quality Bootcamp is one of the best projects we’ve worked on. They create wonderful learning environments, for our attendees but also for our training staff to learn about what different communities are working on and pushing for in their neighborhoods.

All About Air Quality Bootcamp is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
